WHAT IS AN ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL SURGEON?
The word “maxillofacial” refers to the face and jaw, while the word “oral” refers to the mouth. Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are highly trained dental specialists who have received advanced training in order to treat a wide spectrum of diseases, injuries, and defects in the head, neck, and jaw areas. They are qualified to treat a variety of problems such as impacted wisdom teeth, misaligned jaws, mouth tumors, and to perform dental implant surgery. On average, their length of training is between 12 and 14 years.
